Westport is located on Ireland’s beautiful west coast. For most travellers flying from mainland Europe, the easiest route is via Dublin , followed by a train or car journey to Westport.
Recommended airports via Ryanair or Aer Lingus:
1) Dublin Airport (DUB) — most common option
- Approx. 3–3.5 hours by car
- Approx. 3.5–4 hours by train (Dublin Heuston → Westport via Irish Rail)
- Car hire is still recommended for the week to make local travel and excursions easier.
2) Shannon Airport (SNN) :
Approx. 2.5–3 hours by car
Shannon can be a convenient choice depending on your departure city and flight schedule. Please note that public transport to Westport is non existent so car hire is a must if arriving in this airport.
Car hire (recommended): While it’s possible to reach Westport by train from Dublin, having a car makes the immersion week much easier (airport transfers, local travel, and exploring the west of Ireland). We recommend booking with http://www.novacarhire.com/ireland/
